The Goldenrod Inn
Goldenrod Inn is a serene retreat in upstate New York, reimagining the time-honored traditions of a Ryokan-style Japanese bed-and-breakfast. Set against the rolling hills and verdant forests of the Finger Lakes, the inn offers an escape for those yearning to unwind and commune with nature. Nestled within approximately 90 acres of private land, Goldenrod Inn offers exclusive boutique lodgings, a tranquil Sento bath, and two miles of winding natural trails stretching throughout the property. Together our values, location, and unique offerings provide guests an unmatched experience.
and we put form to our dream of the Goldenrod Inn!
A brief story about the Goldenrod Inn
Some ideas strike like lightning, while others mature slowly over time—the Goldenrod Inn is a blend of both. Since graduating from university, Zachary has dreamed of creating something imbued with the spirit and intentionality of Japanese aesthetics. This dream has evolved through his experiences in the retail and fashion industries, drawing lessons from the aspirational branding at Ralph Lauren and the sustainable, mindful practices at Eileen Fisher.
Throughout this journey, Zachary has formed unique and insightful relationships that have helped the dream flourish. A key driver in this endeavor is his husband, Angel, who serves as co-founder of Goldenrod Hospitality Corp. Angel’s background in blending hospitality with patient experience, honed through his work with innovative healthcare companies like One Medical, has been instrumental in propelling the inn toward its launch.
Architect Toshihiro Oki, known for his contributions to the New Museum in New York City and Grace Farms in New Canaan, CT, has designed the Goldenrod Inn to blend seamlessly into its natural surroundings. Nestled in a field of wildflowers, the Inn’s architectural volumes create a perimeter that frames the horizon while enclosing a tranquil Japanese garden. The asymmetrical peaked roofs evoke the image of an unfolded paper fan, offering views of the sky. The careful assembly and selection of local materials imbue the Inn with a distinctive ambiance that captures the essence and spirit of the site.
Our team of advisors, including hotel owners, high-rise hospitality experts, and fundraising professionals, has provided us with a strong foundation to bring our vision to life.
We are not a giant corporation. We refuse to sacrifice our vision, and we are committed to prioritizing the people who support this dream over profit. Our goal is to create a mindful, beautiful, and sustainable business that will support our team and the local community for years to come!
